    Campaign for Public Education
A coalition of parent, student, labour, and community groups that are fighting
against further cuts to the public education system in Ontario.

  • Update: Tuesday, August 29, 12:41 AM Urgent appeal to all District School Board parents and friends of public education Please bear witness to Wednesday's cuts! 5050 Yonge St (North York Centre subway stop) Wednesday August 30th '06 at 6pm BACKGROUNDER : As you know, the Toronto District School Board is facing an $84 million funding shortfall in the school year beginning Sept 1, 2006 In June our Toronto District school board chairperson, Sheila Ward (trustee in Toronto Centre Rosedale) sent home a letter with every student in Toronto District schools (270, 000)

  • But surprise: this Wednesday, Sheila Ward is presenting a motion at the Toronto District board to make $84 million in cuts , then to have parent/community consultations afterward on what would be cut

  • The vote will be very close , about half of the TO District trustees at this board support making another round of cuts to our schools

  • [Note that Toronto Catholic board trustees were close to unanimous in saying NO to the cuts Aug 22nd and will not meet on the subject again until Sept 6th.] If enough parents and students come to the meeting, our presence may sway some of the TO District trustees to vote against making the cuts
