Under the Tenant Protection Act, Statues of Ontario, landlords get to triple-dip on these items
Landlords can pass on any increase in utilities to tenants with no maximum (except for where you pay your electricity bills directly where you will pay the increase directly to your hydro utility company, ) on top of the annual Guideline Increase under this law
This Guidline Increase is based upon the Consumer Price Index which already includes utilities, plus a 2% a year bonus for the landlords that is not manaded for repairs or anything it is just increasing profit we tenants have to pay! That means that you pay for increased utility rates in the Guideline Amount that landlords are allowed to automatically increase rents by, plus each year you pay a 2% bonus to the landlord that is part of the Guideline amount, plus you pay again for any utility increases, either to the utility company or in an 'Above Guideline' increase the landlord can apply for! Is that fair? Of course not
