  • Poquoson, which was formerly part of York County, was incorporated as a town in 1952 and became a city in 1975

  • It is a peninsula containing twenty square miles and is located between the Poquoson River on the north, Back River and Wythe Creek (the Old Poquoson River) on the south, the Chesapeake Bay on the east, and York County on the west

  • The town was formed in 1952, around the same time that York County began integrating the public school system, when a referendum, drafted to avoid such action, enabled Poquoson to establish its own public school system

  • There is no college in Poquoson, but there are others in neighboring Hampton and York County

  • Medical Trip to New York City A guide to where to stay and dine in the Upper East Side near many of the hospitals and clinics

  • by Lynn McKamey My husband needed an operation at Sloan-Kettering in New York City, a long way from our home in Corpus Christi, Texas

  • For those of you who have not been to New York City and may be a little anxious about visiting this 'multitude of the masses', the Upper East Side is a lovely section and probably safer than your local downtown area (at least it is for mine!) It is mostly apartments, condos, and flats in tall buildings, of course, with each 4-5 block area being a 'little neighborhood' with everything you'd need within easy walking distance - groceries, flowers, newsstands, restaurants, diners, shops, and drug stores

  • Once you figure this out about New York, then it doesn't seem so huge and intimidating! Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is located on York Avenue between 67th and 68th street - I've marked the general area with a red square in the upper right side of the map above

  • Patients generally stay at one of several hotels and all usually offer special rates to those needing medical care at area hospitals: The Helmsley Medical Tower Apartments at 1320 York Avenue between East 70th and East 71st

    Fall Foliage trip 1998 Maine
Texas couple describe their fall foliage trip down the coast of Maine with
information about places to stay and things to see. Pictures and links.

  • MAINE 'the Lighthouse state' or is it 'the Lobster state?' or maybe 'the Bay state' PRELUDE: My husband and I are natives of coastal South Texas which features endless white sand beaches of Padre Island National Seashore, but nothing prepared me for experiencing the coast of Maine! It's rugged, wild, yet tranquil -- full of lighthouses, inlets, bays, jagged peninsulas, and lobster, lobsters, lobsters - everywhere! One night I woke up at 2 AM in York and wandered out on our dockside porch

  • BOOTHBAY to YORK We left Boothbay Harbor at 9:30 and stopped at the Musical Wonder House in Wiscasset - if you love old music boxes of every sort and size, don't miss it

  • That is York Street, and will take you right on to the bridge

  • We were totally amused with their license plates 'wall hanging' as shown below: PORTLAND TO YORK Route 1 took us through town after town and lots of traffic - Saco was bumper to bumper

  • Maybe we should have gotten on Interstate 95 for a sprint to York Beach

  • Be sure to pick up a 'real' map when you visit The Yorks and/or Ogunquit! Here’s directions if you are traveling toward Boston: In Ogunquit, at the 'Fancy that News Café', turn left at the sign that says To Beach, but bear to the right which is Shore Road
